Amit Garg (1985 E&C) - Roorkee Alum - IIMA faculty bags research award

Alumni related topics Ahmedabad: Faculty of the Indian institute of management Ahmedabad (IIMA) Amit Garg was awarded the 'Distinguished Young Professor Award for Excellence in Research' on 26th of March 2010 on the occasion of the internal award function of the institute.

The award included a statuette and Rs. 2,50,000.
Professor Garg was presented the award for the various researches that he has done in the area of environment, climate change and energy.

The professor has also recently received a commemoration from the Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh for outstanding contributions to climate change research.

The award which was given away for the third time this year was instituted by the batch of 2006, with an objective to further the vision of creating new frontiers of knowledge through research and publication. The awardee is chosen from among full time faculty members at IIM Ahmedabad who are less than 45 years old on 1st January of the year in which the award is to be presented.

The criteria for the success of the research publication is ascertained through various factors including the judgment of the Award panel based on their experience in evaluating research results, bibliometrics based evaluation: Citation Analysis based on Institute for Scientific, Information's Web of Science database and other potential ways to gauge of the impact of the journal apart from publications and feedback if any from conferences where the research results were presented.

Talking about his research works Garg said, "I have over 20 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, 13 international research reports, 4 books and many book chapters, conference papers in less than a decade of my academic life so far. It turns out to over two international papers and one research report every year. I have kept up this pace since I have joined IIMA as a faculty less than two year ago. I have already published 7 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and 4 research projects are under various stages of completion.”
